LED Installation in the Foyer of RTS in Ecublens (VD)

RTS

In the new building of Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) in Ecublens (VD), AVC-Systems AG implemented a distinctive LED installation in the reception area. The project combines architectural design with modern display technology, creating an eye-catching communication surface for visitors and employees in the foyer.

In addition to the LED installation in the reception pavilion, two mobile displays were also delivered. These are used in the office areas as flexible information and display boards.

LED technology for a public environment

A 1.5 mm COB LED panel was used for the installation in the foyer. This technology offers a particularly robust surface and enhanced protection – important characteristics for an installation in a publicly accessible area with high visitor traffic.

The LED surfaces are integrated into the architectural concept of the reception pavilion and enable the dynamic presentation of information, program content, or visual staging. Thanks to the fine pixel pitch, the solution is well suited for both text and high-resolution visual content viewed from a short distance.

Precise implementation of the architectural design

One of the key objectives of the project was the precise implementation of the dimensions defined by the architectural team. Thanks to a broad LED portfolio and targeted customization, the desired formats could be realized with high precision.

The installation consists of several LED surfaces arranged around the reception desk and prominently positioned on the upper floor:

  • Front Wall 1: 6.3 m × 2.7 m
  • Side Wall 2: 3.45 m × 2.7 m
  • Side Wall 3: 2 × 2.1 m × 2.7 m with an angle of 126°
  • Platform left: 2.1 m × 2.025 m
  • Platform right: 2.1 m × 2.025 m

The combination of straight and angled LED surfaces gives the reception area a clear visual structure while creating an immersive effect from different viewing angles throughout the foyer.

Technical and organizational challenges

As with many projects in a new building, one of the main challenges was the early coordination between the different project stakeholders. This included in particular:

  • Early alignment of technical and geometric requirements with the architectural team
  • Communication and project coordination in French within the project environment
  • Coordination with the construction and finishing trades around the reception desk area

Another technical highlight was the implementation of the 126° angle of Side Wall 3, where two LED surfaces had to be precisely aligned to ensure a seamless visual appearance without visible transitions.

With the new foyer in Ecublens, RTS now has a modern reception area that combines information, architecture, and media technology.
The LED installation forms a central visual element and underlines the innovative character of the building.
