RSI modernizes production with Ross Video: IP workflow, HyperMax and OverDrive
Radiotelevisione Svizzera (RSI) produces around 4,000 hours of original programming every year. Together with Ross Video and AVC-Systems AG, the Swiss broadcaster is evolving its production environment step by step. What began as a graphics upgrade has developed into a connected, IP-based workflow that brings graphics, vision mixing, automation and signal processing closer together. The result is a production environment that is easier to support, more flexible in daily operation and ready to scale with future requirements.
From a graphics upgrade to long-term modernization
RSI worked with a growing mix of legacy systems and different vendors. This made support, upgrades and the response to new production requirements more difficult. Moving to XPression was therefore an important first step. The transition was completed with minimal disruption and showed that even central systems can be modernized in a controlled and reliable way.
The successful change built confidence for the next stages of Ross Video’s ecosystem. RSI could standardize its production environment step by step without fundamentally changing the ongoing broadcast operation.
SMPTE ST 2110 as the common foundation
Today, the environment is based on SMPTE ST 2110. Graphics, routing, vision mixing and automation work together in one shared IP workflow. This simplifies integration, reduces the effort required for operation and support, and creates a flexible foundation for future expansion.
OverDrive for automated production workflows
One important building block is OverDrive, Ross Video’s automated production control system. OverDrive enables recurring production sequences to be planned centrally and executed precisely. The vision mixer, sources, graphics and other production steps are coordinated more consistently. This reduces the operational workload and gives editorial and creative teams more room to focus on the content.
Carbonite HyperMax: more capability with less complexity
With Carbonite HyperMax, RSI replaced its previous vision mixer with a modern, scalable production platform. HyperMax creates additional headroom for live production and helps the team get more from the existing infrastructure through clearer workflows and less manual integration effort.
