10 GigE IP Input Module for the Kaleido-Modular-X Multiviewer


Simultaneous monitoring of SMPTE 2022-6 sources and HD-SDI.

With the IP input card (KMX-3901-IN-IP) for Kaleido- Modular-X from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, this Densité 3 frame-based modular multiviewer can now perform monitoring of SMPTE 2022-6 video-over-IP using dual 10 GigE IP inputs. A single KMX-3901-IN-IP input card allows monitor- ing of up to six SMPTE 2022-6 sources, and up to four input cards can be bridged to provide monitor- ing of up to 24 IP video inputs per multiviewer. The multiviewer provides two outputs via HDMI/SDI, as well by 10 GigE SMPTE 2022-6. Kaleido-Modular-X can provide simultaneous mon- itoring of SMPTE 2022-6 sources and HD-SDI sources by combining the KMX-3901-IN-IP input card with the KMX-3901-IN-8-D and KMX-3901-IN- 16-D SDI input cards within a single Densité 3 frame. This makes Kaleido-Modular-X ideal for transitional IP/HD-SDI environments where there’s a need to monitor both IP and HD-SDI signals, and there’s also a requirement to easily phase in more IP signals over time. The IP-enabled Kaleido-Modular-X multiviewer is perfect for facilities that are beginning to migrate to IP, or testing the waters of IP migration, as it supports both SDI and IP simultaneously. The KMX-3901-IN-IP input cards can even be added to existing Kaleido- Modular-X multiviewers to simplify the transition. The small form factor and modular approach of Kaleido- Modular-X makes it ideal for early tests of adding IP to a facility, and it can quickly and cost-effectively scale when needed. The Kaleido-Modular-X multiviewer is also outstand- ing for creating very large monitoring systems using video-over-IP to monitor HD-SDI signals. This pro- vides very flexible monitoring while also allowing the use of a smaller HD-SDI router for switching, and this can reduce the overall space requirement, power consumption, weight and noise. As systems grow larger to monitor an increasing number of sources, scaling a baseband router to match is not efficient. A simpler, more flexible solution is the addition of a commercial off the shelf (COTS) IP switch to handle multiple signals per cable, allowing systems to grow beyond the constraints of their SDI routers. This solution also reduces the number of cables.
